Terry Brooks

I walk and read at the same time; I sit in a car while it's moving and read when everyone else is busy talking and gabbing. I have many favorite authors that I look for when I go to the bookstore. My friends don't let me anywhere near a bookstore because I'm not in there for ten minutes, I'm in there for an hour browsing every stack, every genre. It's an obsession. I'm the first one to admit it :) Here is one of my favorite authors.

Any fan of Brooks, knows the books regarding Shannara. It started in the 70s with The Sword of Shannara, and has traveled up through the 21st century, and countless generations of the Shannara line. Below are pictures and a little synapsis of each book. To view all things Shannara and Terry Brooks, you can visit his official website!

The Orginal Shannara Trilogy

The Sword of Shannara The first book of the World of Shannara. Written in 1977 and has been published 20something times I read somewhere. I think that's pretty amazing. The image you see is one of many front covers for the book. It is also the cover of the book I pocess. Although this cover is from the hard-to-find hardback, the picture also appears on the paperback version (which I pocess). I believe the copy I have is the first edition of the paperback, but I'm not sure. I'm not sure how many paperbacks were printed the first time with this particular book cover. I'm also not sure how many printings there were before they 'updated' the covers.

In this book, Shea Ohmsford discovers he is the last of an Elvish line and the only one who can defeat the dreaded evil of the Warlock Lord.

The Elfstones of Shannara This book is the second to be published. It wasn't published til '82 and has about 18 publishes. Again, this is the picture that appeared when the book was first published. The hardback of this book is also hard-to-find. I don't know if the book I own is first edition paperback or not.

Twenty years after the Warlock Lord came to the Four Lands, a new threat appears at the doorstep to the Elvin Nation. An ancient and powerful evil threatens the lives of every Elf across the Four Lands. Once again, it is up to an Ohmsford to help find the magic that can save the Elves and the Four Lands.

The Wishsong of Shannara Third book in the orginal series and published in 1985. I finally found a picture that matches the cover of my copy. I wanted to put pics on that matched those of the books I actually own. Just cuz this is my website and I can :D The hardback copies of the all three books are hard to find and collectors' items. They are worth quite a pretty penny from what I understand. I'd like to have the hardback versions just because I have hard back versions of almost all of the Shannara books.

I believe this story takes place 50 years after Elfstones. Yet again, there's an evil, this one is remanent of the time of the Warlock Lord. Mord Wraiths (Gnomish for "Black Walkers") are walking the Four Lands, searching for an evil book called Ildatch.

A Shannara Graphic Novel

Coming March 2008 a graphic novel set in the world of Shannara!

The Heritage of Shannara

Scions of Shannara First book in the series and published in 1990 I believe. According to http://m-w.com a scion (pronounced "sI-on") is a descedant or child. The title of the book is "Descedants of Shannara" so to speak. It makes alot more sense now doesn't it? :)
Druid of Shannara Published in 1991 (or 92, I forget) it is the second book in the series, picking up where the first left off. I always thought Walker Boh was a big cry baby. He's not my favorite character in the least. He annoys me, but he is important to the story. The annoying ones usually are. :)
The Elfqueen of Shannara Published in 1993 it is a continuation as well in the series. It focuses on Wren, who has in her posession, the Elfstones.
The Talismans of Shannara Published in 1994, you finally find out exactly how every one is going to get out of the trouble they have gotten themselves into

A Shannara Prequel

The First King of Shannara was published in between the series of Shannara (exactly when, I don't know). It tells the tale of how the Sword came to be. In the other books of course it tells you Breman (or Brennan..I forget) forged the sword but this book tells you the where, when, why, how, etc., that you always ask yourself when reading the series. Enjoy!

The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara

Book One: Isle Witch Once Again Walker Boh is obsessed with reinstituting the Druid Council to the Four Lands by taking the decendents of the Ohmsfords and Leighs on another peril-filled adventure/journey. This time, they ride in ships that use special crystals that keep them afloat in the air to get them to danger. They are followed (unknown to them) by a powerful witch who wants to take down Walker and his little friends before they reach their destination of Castledown and to gain the power to restore the Druid Council.
Book Two: Antrax Continued from where the first book left off, Walker and his companions have reached their destinaton; a deserted town that is invested by a giant machine named Antrax. It's only mission is to protect the now deserted city of Castledown. Upon reaching this giant city, the group is attacked by Antrax's first weapon of defense: Lasers (for lack of a better term) and the company is displaced, separated, and lost from one another. The Isle Witch as arrived and is also after the company. She needs to get to the power source of Antrax before Walker does. Will hope be restored and the power that Walker is looking for to complete the Druid Council be found? And what of the Isle Witch? Will she gain the upper hand and destroy Walker once and for all?
Book Three: Morgawr After destroying Antrax and Walker's death and the crypitc message Walker left to Bek to desypher, (stupid druids and their cryptic messages!), Bek and his counsin Quinten return to The Jerle Shananra along with the Rovers and begin their journy back to the Four Lands. Bek has discovered the Isle Witch is really his sister, thought to have died years before. Now known as Grianne, the Isle Witch struggles to come out of her catatonic state and accept the truths the Sword of Shannara has shown her. Bek must protect his sister from the Rovers (who consider the Isle Witch their mortal enemy) as well as the Morgawr who is now seeking the destruction of the Isle Witch.

High Druid of Shannara

Book One: Jarka Ruus The Druid Council has been reinstated! Can you believe it?! Allanon would be so ...happy? He would be...proud? Idk...Anyway...Guess who's the High Druid...Grianne..I know, right? The Isle Witch herself. Most people aren't too happy about that and that's why they plan her doom. Powerful magic (VERY powerful magic) is used against her and she ends up in the Forbidding..or..at least..wherever it is the Demons are. I guess the Forbidding is the wall that keeps demons out of the Four Lands...but..I digress...
Book Two: Tanequil Grianne's brother (what's his name?) goes trapsing through out the Four Lands looking for a tree that can help rescue Grianne from the Forbidding.
Book Three: Straken Straken is the "Kind of the demons" (for lack of a better phrase) and has captured Grianne and imprisioned her. Grianne's brother has crossed into the Forbidding and is searching for her.

It's been a while since I've read these three books..so...some it may be...off...I gotta re-read them just cuz hehe I love Shannara!
